Advice

✅ Can I contact Paris Liss for product advice?

Yes. Paris Liss helps technicians and professionals choose products according to their clients and specific needs.

✅ Should I take precautions during application?

Yes:

  • Wear gloves
  • Work in a well-ventilated area
  • Avoid contact with the scalp
  • Never apply to an irritated scalp

Always perform a strand test.

✅ Are the products suitable for home use?

The products are primarily intended for professionals. Incorrect application (temperature, amount, rinsing) can affect the result. For home use, training or good technical knowledge is strongly recommended.

✅ What aftercare is recommended after a smoothing treatment?

To prolong the results, it is essential to use:

  • a sulfate-free shampoo
  • a nourishing mask
  • a heat-protectant serum

👉 Paris Liss offers aftercare products compatible with professional smoothing treatments in the CRYSTAL CARE range.

✅ What temperature should I use for a smoothing treatment?

The temperature depends on the hair:

  • Fine / sensitised hair: 180–200°C
  • Normal hair: 210–220°C
  • Thick / Afro hair: 220–230°C

👉 Excessive heat can weaken the hair fibre.

✅ Should the product be rinsed out completely before using the straightener?

No. Most protocols recommend partial rinsing (around 50–60%) to retain the active ingredients needed for heat smoothing. Each Paris Liss product page specifies the exact protocol.

✅ How many applications can you get from a 1 L smoothing treatment?

On average:

  • 12 to 15 salon applications

(depending on hair length, thickness and the amount used)

👉 The 1 L sizes are designed to provide excellent professional value.

✅ Can a smoothing treatment be used on coloured or bleached hair?

Yes, provided you adapt:

  • the processing time
  • the straightener temperature
  • the number of passes

An accurate diagnosis and a strand test are essential on highlighted or bleached hair.

✅ How do I choose the right smoothing treatment for each hair type?

The choice depends on three essential criteria:

  • Texture (fine, thick, Afro, wavy)
  • Chemical history (colouring, bleaching, previous smoothing treatment)
  • Goal (control the hair, achieve stronger straightening, reduce volume)

👉 Paris Liss offers several types of smoothing treatments: nourishing/protein-based treatments for sensitised hair and stronger treatments for resistant, voluminous hair.

✅ Do your products contain formaldehyde?

No. All our products are free from formaldehyde and formaldehyde derivatives.

✅ Smoothing treatment with or without toning pigments?

Toning pigments help correct and neutralise yellow and orange tones, while enhancing shine and softness. They are an ideal complement to smoothing treatments and hair BTX, acting like a toner to neutralise unwanted warm tones. Some smoothing treatments already contain toning pigments in their formula.

✅ What is Hair BTX?

Hair BTX is first and foremost a care treatment. Its purpose is to treat the hair, not to straighten it. It is ideal for dry hair damaged by chemical treatments such as colouring and bleaching.
It provides an intensive rejuvenating treatment for brittle hair.
Hair BTX also helps control unruly hair and frizz, slightly relaxes the hair and makes blow-drying easier.
Hair BTX is best used as a course of treatments; results may not necessarily be visible after the first application.
Some Hair BTX treatments can also be used to define curls on curly hair.
The effects of a Hair BTX treatment last around 4 to 6 weeks.
❗All our Hair BTX treatments are guaranteed formaldehyde-free.
PARIS LISS TIP:
For an impressive result, combine Hair BTX with SOS Shot concentrated Hair BTX ampoules and Bioplex, then finish with a small amount of Keraboost for an ultra-glossy effect.
Protocol

! Hair BTX is a care treatment, not a smoothing treatment: the aim is to TREAT the hair, not straighten it.
Do not work it like a smoothing treatment: avoid excessive heat and too many passes with the straightener. Use a maximum of 4–5 passes and no more than 200°C.

STEP 1 – After assessing the hair and scalp, wash the hair twice with a clarifying shampoo, then dry to 50%.
STEP 2 – Apply the BTX to the lengths and ends, avoiding the roots and starting 2–3 cm from the scalp. Leave on for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
STEP 3 – After the processing time, rinse thoroughly with water. If possible, apply SOS Shot, leave for 10 minutes, rinse, then blow-dry the hair completely.
STEP 4 – Finish by passing the straightener 4–5 times over each section at 180°C (210°C for resistant hair). For curly hair, dry with a diffuser to avoid relaxing the curl.

✅ Which smoothing treatments and care products are suitable for damaged, sensitised or bleached hair?

Understand, repair and enhance

Damaged, sensitised or bleached hair is weakened hair.
Its fibre is more porous and brittle, and its elasticity may be compromised. In this condition, repair should be prioritised before any chemical transformation.

This is why smoothing treatments are generally not recommended on very damaged or bleached hair without prior preparation.
The priority should always be to rebuild the hair fibre, restore its strength and reduce porosity.

→ When the hair is slightly sensitised but not stretchy, I recommend a gentle smoothing treatment that relaxes the hair while respecting the fibre:

1. Excellence French smoothing treatment
or
2. L'Iéna Paris enzyme therapy (enhanced tannin smoothing treatment).
I recommend applying Bioplex just before the smoothing treatment without rinsing it out, then applying the smoothing product over it and following the treatment protocol.
Clarifying shampoo is not recommended for this type of hair because the hair is already porous. Your protocol must be adapted to the condition of the hair.
3. Elyssa Amla Plex smoothing treatment.

Every head of hair is unique, so protocols can be adapted according to:
the level of sensitisation
chemical history
natural texture
the desired result
This advice does not replace professional training.

✅ Which smoothing treatments and care products are suitable for thick, natural and resistant hair?

Which smoothing treatment to choose and how to use it
Thick, healthy, natural hair is often considered “difficult” hair.
Its cuticle scales are very tightly closed, making product penetration more difficult and slowing the action of hair treatments.
To achieve a very straight result, it is therefore necessary to use suitable, sufficiently effective smoothing products that can penetrate the hair fibre and deliver the desired transformation.
However, this type of product is not recommended on sensitised or damaged hair, as its strength can weaken the fibre further instead of controlling it.
This is why I recommend always working with two smoothing treatments: a stronger treatment for resistant hair and a gentler one for sensitised hair.
Recommended smoothing treatments for thick, resistant hair
For this hair type, I particularly recommend:
Indiana Gloss Indian smoothing treatment
Tahiti Gloss
Vitta Gold
Minoa Gloss
Panthera Negra

The importance of technique
On resistant hair, the result depends above all on your technique and expertise.
This type of hair does not always respond perfectly on the first attempt, and this is not necessarily due to the product: the protocol may need to be adjusted to optimise the result.
Depending on the case, you may need to:
extend the processing time
adjust the number of straightener passes (without overdoing it and weakening the hair)
rinse 80% instead of 100%
perform a strand test to check your protocol
use a shampoo (L'Iéna Paris clarifying shampoo is compatible with all smoothing treatments and brands)
Every head of hair reacts differently, so observation and adaptation are essential.

✅ Which smoothing treatments and care products are suitable for extremely sensitised, stretchy, gummy or brittle hair?

All care products offered in our online shop are compatible with damaged, fragile, bleached or sensitised hair.
They can be used individually, but I recommend combining them to create genuinely tailored repair protocols and achieve visible results from the first application.

Example protocol for damaged hair:
1️⃣ Bioplex for prevention
Spray onto washed, towel-dried hair using the Nano Gun or directly with its spray nozzle.
Leave on for 10 minutes.
➡️ Do not rinse.

2️⃣ Apply a repairing BTX treatment over the Bioplex (any brand, such as Minoa, Glow Lift, etc.) to the lengths and ends without touching the roots.
Leave on for 30 minutes.
Then rinse.

3️⃣ Concentrated BTX ampoule
Mix 1 part product with 2 parts water.
Apply to the most sensitised areas.
Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes.
Then rinse.

4️⃣ Spray Bioplex again without rinsing.
Dry, then style the hair using:
straighteners, or a diffuser for curly hair.

5 / Protection and shine finish
Apply Bain de Soie Serum to the lengths and ends for a shiny, lightweight and fragranced finish.

OUR APPROACH:
Our goal is simple:
repair before transforming
protect before smoothing
preserve long-term hair health

Every head of hair is unique, so protocols can be adapted according to:
the level of sensitisation
chemical history
natural texture
the desired result
This advice does not replace professional training.

✅ Which smoothing treatments and care products are suitable for Afro, coily or textured hair?

Afro or textured hair is both strong and fragile.
Its spiral structure makes it naturally drier, more porous and more prone to breakage. It is therefore delicate to smooth and requires a considered strategy and full control of the protocol.

3 possible approaches to smoothing Afro hair

1. Light smoothing to preserve the hair's natural character
In my view, this is the safest option.
It helps soften and relax the fibre without excessively altering its natural structure, while avoiding a very pronounced regrowth line that can be difficult to manage between treatments.

2. Progressive smoothing
This approach involves working on the hair in several stages, over several sessions if necessary, to achieve a smoother result without weakening the fibre.
It is an ideal method for preserving long-term hair health.

3. Seeking an intensely straight result in the first session
This option is possible but carries more risk.
The required protocol is often more aggressive for this type of fibre, which may lead to breakage in the following weeks or months if the hair is not sufficiently protected and rebuilt.

Recommended smoothing treatments for Afro hair

For textured hair, I particularly recommend:

Tahiti Gloss: ideal for Afro hair thanks to its shea-rich base, which is highly nourishing and protective for this type of fibre.

Minoa Gloss (tannin)

Enhanced tannin enzymoplasty

BioTanix tannin treatment

These treatments help control the fibre while respecting its need for nourishment and reconstruction.

Professional tip to help limit breakage after smoothing

A tip I give my trainees:
using Minoa PH Control neutraliser is strongly recommended after smoothing textured hair.

The neutraliser helps to:

reconnect disulphide bonds modified during smoothing

stabilise the hair transformation

rebuild the fibre from within

strengthen the hair and help limit breakage in the following weeks

In my view, it is an essential product for dry, textured or Afro hair.
